Dracian Origins – Teasers

Hello Loves!

As some of you might have known, I’ve officially finished Dracian Origins two weeks ago. I’m taking a small break, before I dive back into the revisions phase, which always seem to take me the longest time. But fret not, I have learned quite a few things from writing the first book. SO I’m going to do everything I can, to make Book 2 better than the first one.

But in the meantime, to quinch your thirst, I’m including all the teasers I’ve released so far for this book on both my Facebook and Twitter pages.  If you haven’t already done so, and you want to get up-to-date teasers and follow my progress on all WIP, please take a minute and click here to like my facebook page and follow me on twitter.

Also, I had previously promised that if I get 250 adds for Dracian Origins on Goodreads, I’ll post a MAJOR teaser.  It’s the Epilogue, the ending from the book. So please share, share, and help me reach 250 adds!

Here’s the link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17302634-dracian-origins

Without further ado, here are the teasers:

Disclaimer: This is NOT from the final version of the book and may change before publication.

Teaser #1:

Let’s go.” Dean, my protector, tugged at my arm.

“What? No!” I snatched away from his grip. The unmistakable battle cries, metal against metal sound, and whooshing hums of Dracian magic from our warriors’s losing battle, were too
loud to ignore. “We can’t leave our people behind.” I turned to head over the metal door that we had just passed through.

“Don’t be stupid.” Dean lowered his voice to a whisper. “Your life is worth more than anyone else’s in this room.”

The contents in my stomach churned at his statement. They were all sacrificing themselves for me. For someone they didn’t know. I shook my head. “No I can’t—”

With an earsplitting boom the iron doors burst open, throwing us to the corners of the room.

My back hit the wall and my vision blurred for a few seconds. The ringing in my head pounded against my skull. I groaned, my hand rubbing over my tender tailbone.

My eyes took in the flicks of redish-orange blaze before us. Around the room, Dracians slowly recouped from the blast, finding their way back up to their feet. Few bruised and some others with visible gash wounds and bleeding.

A body laid motionless.

My heart thudded against my chest as I scan around the room trying to find Axel. Where was he?

Teaser #2:

He turned to his captive who looked as alive as a dead bird on a hot summer day. His foot roughly pushed against the prisoner’s cheek as he looked down with an ominous smile. “Any last words, before you die, Dracian.”

“Yeah,” Mute’s voice rasped. “Just one thing. You’re feet really stink. You should consider a pedicure.”

Oh, Mute! Now was really not the time to piss off a delusional psychopath.

*Mute is one of the new characters that Ren meets in Dracia. He’s fun and nerdy. <3

Teaser #3:

“I need you, angel. I’m suffocating.” He cupped my cheek, pushing back the sweaty strands of hair behind my ear. “God baby, I need you. I need you so damn much.”

Teaser #4:

Through the bluish-red flames, a cluster of hooded bodies, dressed in blood-red trench coats, marched in. Their synchronized march resonated against the four corners of the room. With keen precision they parted way in the middle like an unknown force had moved them apart.

A brown haired man I had only seen once before stepped though the pathway, his head high, shoulders stiff, and a smile that would have had the devil peeing in his pants.
Armin.

Teaser #5

“Sometimes loving someone means making decisions that’d break you into million pieces” I leaned down and pressed my lips to his forehead. I squeezed my eyes shut, feeling a little disoriented. “Goodbye Alexander, my love.”

Author Interview – Jackson Baer

Hello Lovelies!

Today I have something a little different than per my usual. Throughout Summer 2013, I’m going to have several authors stop by my blog to do guest posts, interviews, giveaways, etc. So keep your eye out for it.

Today, to kick things off, I interviewed Jackson Baer author of The Earth Bleeds Red.

ABOUT JACKSON:

942418_461826800574604_2051692067_nI’m 29 and was born and raised in Woodstock, Ga; north of Atlanta. I’m a huge Braves and Georgia Tech fan. I’ve lived in Oregon for the past 5+ years now and love the Trailblazers as well as Oregon State, where I will graduate with a B.A. in English & Education in June 2014. I’ve been married for 10 years and we have 4 beautiful children together, aged 3-9.

I graduated from a Bible college in 2003 and that is where I met my wife. I spent 7 years as a youth & teaching pastor but have not been a pastor for the past 2 years now. I’m not very religious though you will find spiritual themes within my writing due to it being such a large part of the majority of my life. My characters, much like myself, struggle with faith, doubt, and love as a part of their everyday lives. The novel is by no means a Christian novel, however, with language you’d find in real life as well as situations not suited for a church service.

My favorite author is Joyce Carol Oates and I also love Junot Diaz and Sherman Alexie, among many others. Their novels have influenced me the most and I’d like to think my writing style resembles their amazing books. Them by Joyce Carol Oates is the best book I’ve ever read and if you’ve never read it, stop what you’re doing right now and read it. Seriously, do it now.

WAYS to STALK HIM:

Blog: http://jacksonpaulbaer.com/
FB Page: www.facebook.com/JacksonPaulBaer
Twitter: twitter.com/JacksonPaulBaer
Goodreads: www.goodreads.com/JacksonPaulBaer

The Interview:

1) Tell us about how you got started with writing? Have you always known you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve been writing ever since I was a child. I can remember sitting down at only eight or nine years old, writing out titles for books that I wanted to write. When I was younger, I wrote songs mainly along with a bit of poetry. As a young adult, I started writing more novels than I can remember, only to quit because they were so poorly written. It wasn’t until I started taking fiction writing classes at Oregon State University that I realized I loved writing and received positive feedback from a few of my professors. That’s when I decided I would sit down and write a novel.

2) What genre do you like to read and/or write in and why?

I love to read literary fiction (Joyce Carol Oates, Sherman Alexie, Junot Diaz, Zora Neale Hurston). I like to write in the same genre with blends of suspense, mystery, and even mild thrills. I want to read something that makes me think about the deeper things in life while at the same time, forcing me to skip class or work because the story is simply that good.

3) Do you have any habits or routines you do before, during, or after writing? When’s your best time to write?

Well, after writing, I’m usually thinking about the story throughout my day. I stop and write down ideas all the time so I don’t forget them. The best time for me to write is undoubtedly the night. I enjoy the peace and quiet; that time after everyone else is asleep. If I could, I’d stay up until 4am writing every single night.

4) A genie appears before you, while you’re writing (of course), and tells you she will grant you 2 wishes. Why two wishes? Cuz she’s special like that. So, coming back to my question. What would your 2 wishes be? The only stipulation, you can’t wish for more wishes or chocolate. *shrugs* She’s got something against chocolate, something about an ex always complaining about having to buy her chocolate. lol. *clears throat*. So what would your 2 wishes be.

My first wish would be for my kids to always live close to me. My second wish would be the ability to write for the rest of my life without having to worry about landing a publishing deal or promotion.

VERY Valid wishes!

5) NOW for the fun fun fun stuff. Are you working on anything? Tell us about it!

Yes! My first book, THE EARTH BLEEDS RED, is due out at the end of August (2013, Pandamoon Publishing). It’s a literary suspense and I’m beyond excited for its release. Right now, I’m about halfway through a literary psychological thriller called, THE LIGHTS WILL NEVER FADE. It’s kind of creeping me out.

Here is a little preview of the novel: http://jacksonpaulbaer.com/the-earth-bleeds-red/
6) If you were to come face to face with a poisonous snake with unbelievably fast striking aim versus a lion that hadn’t eaten anything in a week, who would you rather be up against? Lol

Definitely the snake though both would freak me out. With the snake, at least I’d have a chance at running away. My biggest fear, however, is mice. Irony?

Um… Yes, Jackson. Yes it is! Lol

7) First off congratulations on getting your book published through Pandamoon Publishing. Tell me about your experience!

Thank you! They are a newer company but the owner has extensive experience running her own businesses as well as marketing. She’s been successful is all her endeavors and I’m confident that the same will be true for the publishing company. I couldn’t be happier with the way they’ve treated me, the services they’ve offered, and the professionalism shown up to this point. The biggest reason I chose to sign with Pandamoon dealt with their marketing plan and the ability to work with someone who knows advertising.

8) Finally, ANY advice for new writers or writers that are looking to get published?

Yes, don’t get discouraged. I received a TON of rejection letters. Many were generic though a few were personal and encouraging. Finally, after working with a lit agency intern, I improved my query to the point that it started to gain attention from my queries and the #pitmad contest on Twitter. I ended up receiving interest from a couple literary agents and two small publishing companies. The only person who can stop you is you. Keep writing, working, studying, and reading. If it’s your goal in life to be a writer, don’t stop until you reach that goal.

Jackson, thank you so much for kicking off this special for the Summer and taking the time to answer the interview questions.  I wish you the best of luck in your writing career! Please do stop by in the future, I’d love you have you on my blog again :) .

All right boys and girls! I hope you all enjoyed reading through this interview as much as I had fun interviewing Jackson! Please take a minute and take some time to say hello to Jackson!

More interviews, more giveaways, more guest posts to come!

STAY TUNED…

GUYS take a deep breath and get ready to read a captivating sneak peak into Branded Chapter ONE!

Chapter One

I’m buried six feet under, and no one hears my screams.

The rope chafes as I loop it around my neck. I pull down on it, making sure the knot is secure. It seems sturdy enough.

My legs shake. My heart beats heavy in my throat. Sweat pours down my back.

Death and I glare at each other through my tears.

I take one last look at the crystal chandelier, the foyer outlined with mirrors, and the flawless decorations. No photographs adorn the walls. No happy memories here.

I’m ready to go. On the count of three.

I inhale, preparing myself for the finality of it all. Dropping my hands, a glimmer catches my eye. It’s my ring, the last precious gift my father gave me. I twist it around to read the inscription. Picturing his face forces me to reconsider my choice. He’d be heartbroken if he could see me now.

A door slams in the hallway, almost causing me to lose my balance. My thoughts already muddled, I stand, waiting with the rope around my neck. Voices I don’t recognize creep through the walls.

Curiosity overshadows my current thoughts. It’s late at night, and this is a secure building in High Society. No one disturbs the peace here—ever. I tug on the noose and pull it back over my head.

Peering through the eyehole in our doorway, I see a large group of armed guards banging on my neighbors’ door. A heated conversation ensues, and my neighbors point toward my family’s home.

It hits me. I’ve been accused and they’re here to arrest me.

My father would want me to run, and in that split second, I decide to listen to his voice within me. Flinging myself forward in fear, I scramble up the marble staircase and into my brother’s old bedroom. The door is partially covered, but it exists. Pushing his dresser aside, my fingers claw at the opening. Breathing hard, I lodge myself against it. Nothing. I step back and kick it with all my strength. The wood splinters open, and my foot gets caught. I wrench it backward, scraping my calf, but adrenaline pushes me forward. The voices at the front door shout my name.

On hands and knees, I squeeze through the jagged opening. My brother left through this passage, and now it’s my escape too. Cobwebs entangle my face, hands, and hair. At the end, I feel for the knob, twisting it clockwise. It swings open, creaking from disuse. I sprint into the hallway and smash through the large fire escape doors at the end. A burst of cool air strikes me in the face as I jump down the ladder.

Reaching the fifth floor, I knock on a friend’s window. The lights flicker on, and I see the curtains move, but no one answers. I bang on the window harder.

“Let me in! Please!” I say, but the lights darken. They know I’ve been accused and refuse to help me. Fear and adrenaline rush through my veins as I keep running, knocking on more windows along the way. No one has mercy. They all know what happens to sinners.

Another flight of stairs passes in a blur when I hear the guards’ heavy footfalls from above. I can’t hide, but I don’t want to go without trying.

Help me, Daddy. I need your strength now.

My previous desolation evolves into a will to survive. I have to keep running, but I tremble and gasp for air. I steel my nerves and force my body to keep moving. In a matter of minutes, my legs cramp and my chest burns. I plunge to the ground, scraping my knee and elbow. A moan escapes from my chest.

Gotta keep going.

“Stop!” Their voices bounce off the buildings. “Lexi Hamilton, surrender yourself,” they command. They’re gaining on me.

I resist the urge to glance back, running into what I assume is an alley. I’m far from our high-rise in High Society as I plunge into a poorer section of the city where the streets all look the same and the darkness prevents me from recognizing anything. I’m lost.

My first instinct is to leap into a dumpster, but I retain enough sense to stay still. I crouch and peek around it, watching them dash by. The abhorrent smell soon leaves me vomiting until nothing remains in my stomach. Desperation overtakes me, as I know my retching was anything but silent. My last few seconds tick away before they find me. Everyone knows about their special means of tracking sinners.

I push myself to my feet and look left, right, and left again. Their batons click against their black, leather belts, and their boots stomp the cement on both sides of me. I shrink into myself. Their heavy steps mock my fear, growing closer and closer until I know I’m trapped.

Never did I imagine they’d come for me. Never did I imagine all those nights I heard them dragging someone else away that I’d join them.

“You’re a sinner,” they say. “Time to leave our society.”

I stand defiant. I refuse to bend or break before them even as I shiver with fear.

“There’s no reason to make this difficult. The more you cooperate, the smoother this will be for everyone,” a guard says.

I cringe into the blackness along the wall. I’m innocent, but they won’t believe me or care.

The next instant, my face slams into the pavement as one guard plants a knee in my back and another handcuffs me. A warm liquid trails into my mouth. Blood. Their fingers grip my arms like steel traps as they peel me off the cement. The tops of my shoes scrape along the ground as I’m dragged behind them until they discard me into the back of a black vehicle. The doors slam in unison with one guard stationed on each side of me, my shoulders digging into their arms. The handcuffs dig into my wrists, so I clasp them together hard behind me and press my back into the seat, unwilling to admit how much it hurts. My dignity is all I have left.

Swallowing hard, I stare ahead to avoid their eyes.

Did they need so many guards to capture me?

I’m not carrying any weapons, nor do I own any. I don’t even know self-defense. High Society frowns on activities like that.

The driver jerks the vehicle around and I try to keep my bearings, but it’s dark and the scenery changes too fast. Hours pass and the air grows warmer, more humid, the farther we drive. The landscape mutates from city to rolling hills. They don’t bother blindfolding me because they escort all the sinners to the same place—the Hole. Twenty-foot cement walls encase the chaos within. There’s no way out and no way in unless they transport you. They say the Hole is a prison with no rules. We learned about it last year in twelfth grade.

To the outside, I’m filth now. I’ll never be allowed to return to the life I knew. No one ever does.

“All sinners go through a transformation,” one of the guards says to me. His smirk infuriates me. “I’m sure you’ve heard all kinds of stories.” I don’t respond. I don’t want to think about the things I’ve been told.

“You won’t last too long, though. Young girls like you get eaten alive.” He pulls a strand of my hair up to his face.

Get your hands off me, you pig. I want to lash out, but resist. The punishment for disobeying authority is severe, and I’m not positioned to defy him.

They’re the Guards of the Commander. They’re chosen from a young age and trained in combat. They keep the order of society by using violent methods of intimidation. No one befriends a guard. Relationships with them are forbidden inside the Hole.

Few have seen the commander. His identity stays under lock and key. His own paranoia and desire to stay pure drove him to live this way. He controls our depraved society and believes sinners make the human race unforgivable. His power is a crushing fist, rendering all beneath him helpless. So much so, even family members turn on each other when an accusation surfaces. Just an accusation. No trial, no evidence, nothing but an accusation.

I lose myself in thoughts of my father.

“Never show fear, Lexi,” my father said to me before he was taken. “They’ll use it against you.” His compassionate eyes filled with warning as he commanded me to be strong. That was many years ago, but I remember it clearly. My father. My rock. The one person in my life who provided unconditional love.

The vehicle stops, and I’m jerked back to reality. “Get out,” the guard orders while pulling me to my feet. The doors slide open and the two guards lift me up and out into the night. A windowless cement building looms in front of us, looking barren in the darkness.

The coolness of the air sends a shiver up my spine. This is really happening. I’ve been labeled a sinner. My lip starts to quiver, but I bite it before anyone sees. They shove me in line and I realize I’m not alone. Women and men stand with faces frozen white in fear. A guard grabs my finger, pricks it, and dabs my blood on a tiny microchip.

I follow the man in front of me into the next room where we’re lined up facing the wall. Glancing right, I see one of the men crying.

“Spread your legs,” one of the guards says.

They remove my outer layers and their hands roam up and down my body.

What do they think I could possibly be hiding? I press my head into the wall, trying to block out what they’re doing to me.

“MOVE!” a guard commands. So I shuffle across the room, trying to cover up.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five of us sit in the holding room. One by one, they pull people into the next room, forcing the rest of us to wonder what torture we’ll endure. An agonizing amount of time passes. I lean my head back and try to imagine a place far away. The door opens.

“Lexi Hamilton.”

A guard escorts me out of the room, and I don’t have time to look back. As soon as the door closes, they pick me up and place me on a table. It’s cold and my skin sticks to it slightly, like wet fingers on an ice cube. Then, they exit in procession, and I lie on the table with a doctor standing over me. His hands are busy as he speaks.

“Don’t move. This will only take a few minutes. It’s time for you to be branded.”

A wet cloth that smells like rubbing alcohol is used to clean my skin. Then he places a metal collar around my neck.

Click. Click. Click.

The collar locks into place, and I struggle to breathe. The doctor loosens it some as I focus on the painted black words above me.

The Seven Deadly Sins:

Lust ¾ Blue

Gluttony ¾ Orange

Greed ¾ Yellow

Sloth ¾ Light Blue

Wrath ¾ Red

Envy ¾ Green

Pride ¾ Purple

“Memorize it. Might keep you alive longer if you know who to stay away from.” He opens my mouth, placing a bit inside. “Bite this.”

Within seconds, the collar heats from hot to scorching. The smell of flesh sizzling makes my head spin. I bite down so hard a tooth cracks.

“GRRRRRRRRR,” escapes from deep within my chest. Just when I’m about to pass out, the temperature drops, and the doctor loosens the collar.

He removes it and sits me up. Excruciating pain rips through me and I’m on the verge of a mental and physical breakdown. Focus. Don’t pass out.

Stainless steel counters and boring white walls press in on me. A guard laughs at me from an observation room above and yells, “Blue. It’s a great color for a pretty young thing like yourself.” His eyes dance with suggestion. The others meander around like it’s business as usual.

I finally find my voice and turn to the doctor.

“Are you going to give me clothes?” A burning pain spreads like fire from my neck to my jaw, making me wince.

He points to a set of folded grey scrubs on a chair. I cover myself as much as I can and scurry sideways. Grabbing my new clothes, I pull the shirt over my head and try to avoid the raw meat around my throat. I quickly knot the cord of my pants around my waist and slide my feet into the hospital-issue slippers as the doctor observes. He hands me a bag labeled with my name.

“Nothing is allowed through the door but what we’ve given you,” he says.

I hide my right hand behind me, hoping no one notices. A guard scans my body and opens his hand.

“Give it to me,” he says. “Don’t make me rip off your finger.” He crouches down and I turn to stone. I don’t know what to do, so I beg.

“My father gave this to me. Please, let me keep it.” I smash my eyes shut and think of the moment my father handed the golden ring to me.

“It was my mother’s ring,” he’d said. “She’s the strongest woman I ever knew.” With tears in his eyes, he reached for my hand. “Lexi, you’re exactly like her. She’d want you to wear this. No matter how this world changes, you can survive.” I turned the gold band over in my palm and read the engraving.

You can overcome anything… short of death.

“You’re going to take the one thing that matters the most to me?” I say, glaring into the guard’s emotionless eyes. “Isn’t it enough taking my life, dignity, and respect?”

A hard blow falls upon my back. As I fall, my hands shoot out to stop me from smashing into the wall in front of me. The guard bends down and grabs my chin with his meaty fist.

“Look at me,” he commands. I look up and he smiles with arrogance.

“What the hell?” He staggers a step backward. “What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with your eyes?”

“Nothing,” I respond, confused.

“What color are they?”

“Turquoise.” I glower at him.

“Interesting,” he says, regaining his composure. “Now those’ll get you in trouble.”

Reality slaps me across the face. I have my father’s eyes. They can’t take them from me. I twist the ring off my finger and drop it in his hand.

“Take the damn ring,” I say. I walk to the door. He swipes a card and the massive door slides open to the outside.

“You have to wear your hair back at all times, so everyone knows what you are.” He hands me a tie, so I pull my frizzy hair away from my face and secure it into a ponytail. My neck burns and itches as my hand traces the scabs that have already begun to form. Squinting ahead into the darkness, I almost run into a guard standing on the sidewalk.

“Watch where you’re going,” he says, shoving me backward. His stiff figure stands tall and I cringe at the sharpness of his voice.

“Cole, this is your new assignment, Lexi Hamilton. See to it she feels welcome in her new home.” The guard departs with a salute.

“Let’s move,” Cole says.

I take two steps and collapse, my knees giving out. The unforgiving pavement reopens the scrapes from earlier and I struggle to stand. A powerful arm snatches me up, and I see his face for the first time.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of Hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.

Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of Hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.

THE INTERVIEW with The Collector’s Creator VICTORIA SCOTT and her Amazing Characters DANTE and CHARLIE!!!!

___________________

Hello V, Charlie and *hesitates* Dante.

So tell me, V, I want to know, how and where did Dante introduce himself to you? *This outta be good*

I saw Dante at a bar in Chicago. We were drinking alone and our tables were next to each other. I saw this guy and I thought, “Why the long face?” So I asked him. The guy didn’t stop talking until the sun rose the next morning. And man, did he have a story to tell. I think the Jack Daniels in his hand helped loosen his tongue that night.

Dante, so people seem to think you’re amazing, even though you keep insisting you make good girls bad.  Why do you think that is? I mean, what makes you special?  Seriously, I heard there are cults forming for Dante Walker *smiles sheepishly*

Look, I think there have always been chicks out there that dig a good Romeo. But there are other girls, girls who like to live on the edge, who love a bit of danger. Those girls want a guy like me. They want someone to wake them up and make them feel like maybe they’re doing something they shouldn’t. And I am something they shouldn’t be doing. Also, I’m never going to be the guy who forgets how damn sexy they are. Not for one second.

Charlie, so you’re a good girl that Dante’s trying to collect, right? Tell us, really, if you knew Dante was interested in ‘collecting’ you would you have, a) run away screaming the other way, b) kick him between the legs and then run away screaming c) resort to other forms of physical or mental abuse, d) other option and please explain yourself *winks*

Ha! Great question! I’d like to say I’d choose the physical abuse option *laughs* but in actuality, I probably would have stuck around. I feel like everyone has good in them, and it’s just a matter of getting to that goodness. What’s more, I believe people want to be good, but maybe they’ve been ignored or led to believe that they weren’t. So yeah, I would have stayed his friend and tried to help him. And I probably would have watched my soul pretty closely. ;)

So this question is for all of you! You get to do ONE thing you can do, a redo of sorts in life, what would that one thing be?

Victoria: I would have followed Dante around that night in Chicago after we met, just to see him work in person.

Dante: Nothing. I wouldn’t redo a damn thing. Pow!

Charlie: Oh, man. So much! I would do more for Grams. I feel like every day I do too little for her. She’s just the most wonderful Grandma ever!

Can I do speed dating questions with ya’ll? *grins* Just say the first thing that pops into your head. Okay? Ready? Set… Go…

Monkey:

V: Terrifying

D: Sex

C: Cute!

Laptop/computer/electronics:

V: Necessary

D: Amazing

C: Obtrusive

Travis from Beautiful Disaster, Daemon from Lux Series, Aiden from Covenant Series, OR Caleb from Significance Series:

V: Aiden

D: Daemon

C: Aiden

Hip:

V: As in, cool? Oh, wait. One word. Okay…scarves.

D: She’s talking about a woman’s body. My word is sexy.

C: Confused? Ha!

Life:

V: Good

D: Amazing

C: Glorious

YAAY! That’s all the questions I have and thank you all so much for stopping by my blog… It was sooo much fun having you guys here! Seriously….  You guys rocked my socks off!  If you ever wanted to stop by again, PLEASE DO!

Between I DID finish The Collector and I can… *puts on a professional face* see the zeal behind the cults forming all around the world *screams like a little girl inside*.

Synopsis

His challenge? Make her fall in love with him.

Her challenge? Play the player.

Until life changes the rules of the game.

Maddie Stevens hated Braden Carter on sight. Arrogant, egotistical, and the playboy of the University of California, Berkeley, he’s everything her brother Pearce has taught her to despise. So why, when the girls challenge her to play the player, doesn’t she say no? She doesn’t know either.

Braden wanted fiery little Maddie the second he laid eyes on her – and he’d do anything to have her, hence why he’s agreed to make her fall in love with him. After all, it’s the only way he’ll get what he wants. Sex.

But, as Braden discovers, there’s more to the girl from Brooklyn than he ever imagined – and he can’t help but care about the broken girl behind those pretty green eyes.

Maddie finds Braden isn’t just a walking erection – he actually has feelings. He can be sweet, funny and his good looks don’t exactly hurt. That means trouble – but when her brother Pearce turns up in Berkeley begging for her help, she realises Braden and Pearce aren’t so alike anymore.

And maybe, just maybe, they’re exactly what each other needs.

MY Review:

Characters:
Maddie: I love her name. LOVE IT. It’s so simple, but so unique! Her character is pretty spunky too! She knows what she wants and who she is, and then there’s the fact that not a whole lot of things tend to rattle her world.  Of course there’s her brother and Braden… Two people, she thinks are alike, but only realizes they are nothing alike!

Braden: I love his name, too! He’s wonderful! Emma portrays him as a player, but really, from the beginning, I didn’t feel like that was his emmo. And he’s soo sweet and protective. But not in a caveman-ish way.

Plot.  Girl see a cocky boy, agrees to a bet to send him crying, kicking him to the curb AFTER he falls in love, because she thinks he’s just as bad as her brother. But later comes to realize he isn’t… In fact, her brother and Braden are two very different people!

Boy sees an unattainable girl and wants what he can’t have. Takes a bet with his buddies, that he’ll have her in his bed by the end of the month. Only, during the month’s time, he realizes that she’s unattainable in more than one way and starts to fall for the girl and care for more than he originally planned to.

So what happens when these two find out that they played the same LOVE GAME? Well you’d have to read it to know!

Braden + Maddie. THIS COUPLE. I loved how each thought they were outsmarting the other, but only they start to fall for each other. They were cute in every possibly way. NOW only if both of them took their heads out of their brains (yeah, you read that right), they’d have realized that they did exactly the same thing they accused the other person of!

The ending. I’m still smiling. It was cute, fun, and the game had been played beautifully!

Overall, The Love Game turned out to be a cute, fun filled story that had me  smiling my face off until the end. I give it a five-star!

Author Bio

By day, Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to a terrible two year old and cooking baby, due September 2013. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of wine – well, tropical juice now – and writes books. She likes to write about magic, kisses and whatever else she can fit into the story. Sarcastic, witty characters are a must. As are hot guys. She’s working on the companion novel to her latest release and NA debut, Never Forget (Memories #1), and The Love Game (The Game, #1) will release on March 29th. She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes. Ironically, that’s where most of her ideas come from. Her debut YA series, The Mauve Legacy, is an Apple iBooks Bestseller – and this makes Emma excited.

Stalker, Stalker, pants on fir… wait never mind. wrong rhyme, but I’ve got a special treat for you!

Stalker Braden’s POV =)

See how I linked those two… Pretty clever… Right? *awkward silence* No? Nevermind.

Well, moving along then.

I run my fingers through my hair, and Maddie appears at the door. Two girls run past her into the building, giggling, and she shakes her head.
“Isn’t stalking a little below you, Braden?” She smirks at me, her pink, glossy lips turning up at one side. Her green eyes are wide and lined with a soft brown liner, her auburn hair pulled to one side revealing her very lightly tanned neck.
“You tell me, Maddie,” I reply. She leans against the wall, and I mimic her movement. “Will you come on another date, or do I have to stalk you some more?”
She plays with a piece of her hair, sliding her fingers up and down it. It makes me wonder what else she could slide her fingers up and down.
Not the fucking time, Braden. Make her fall in love, don’t take her on the damn sidewalk.
“Maybe,” she replies, bringing me back to the conversation. Except now my brain is focused on the way her lips move when she talks.
“Maybe you’ll go, or maybe I have to stalk you some more? I gotta say, Angel, I’m down for either.” I rake my eyes down her body, the tight tank top and cut-off shorts, and back up. “Stalking could definitely have its perks.”
